April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. When she was in the seventh grade, she started playing guitar and piano classes, which ignited her love for writing songs. At the age of seven, April began taking guitar and piano lessons. This ignited her interest in writing songs. At 14, April spent much time writing songs and honed her music abilities. Then she began to take trips to write with her father in NY as well as LA. April began also to incorporate different topics related to some of her peers who are dealing in the area of social pressure and teen suicide in the song"Take my Hand. Lockhart has her own fan base and also works as a lifestyle blogger with the well-known Ilia the Clean Beauty brand. The disability she has is part of her personality, but it is not the whole image. Lockhart's Instagram account doesn't ignore the fact that she has a disability. However, it doesn't insist on her disability. The message? We are all more than just our physical self. The identities we have are complex and we contain many different dimensions. Lockhart through a video messages from his Nashville at home, claims that I don't wish for my physical appearance to define myself. I am more than my physical self. But it does not affect my everyday living. I do the normal things and have adjusted to my disabilities. This is also part of my life, and I think it's something that needs to be addressed. Self-acceptance is a lifelong marathon however Lockhart truly inspires me for this aspect. Still she admits she's gone through periods of being uncomfortable with her body, at times, being unsure about wearing specific types of clothes that showed the arms of her. Now she wears whatever outfit she wants and posts pictures on her Facebook page with pride. The journey itself is the most important thing. I'm not sure if you ever arrive she says about self-love. It's true for all, no matter what their level of insecurity. It's vital to surround yourself those who can see and know your true heart.
